BACK JACK
Make his birthday a 30-day national holiday
Like most people, Jack celebrates his birthday once a year. Unlike most people, Jack celebrates his birthday all month long. And he’s dead. So this year, we’re hitting the campaign trail and asking Congress to make it official.
WASHINGTON - Here's one spirited grassroots campaign on which bickering Democrats and Republicans just might manage to find some common ground. The Jack Daniel Distillery has started a push to get Congress to declare the celebrated Tennessee whiskey maker's birthday a national holiday, something that would put him in the same company as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. The "Back Jack" movement is part of the Lynchburg, Tenn., distillery's campaign to mark the mustachioed pioneer's 160th birthday in September.
